NYC Festivals to Attend in 2023

As summer approaches, festival season is getting into full swing. Whether you’re looking to get your dance on at an EDM event or just want to relax with some live music in the park, there are plenty of options to choose from. To help you plan your summer music calendar, here’s a look at some of the best festivals to attend in 2023.

As the weather warms up, New York City is the perfect place to enjoy music. From classic rock to experimental jazz, the Big Apple has something for everyone. Here are some of the most popular NYC music festivals to check out this summer.

The annual PEN America Literary Festival takes place in June and July. This year, the festival is curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar and bestselling novelist Ottessa Moshfegh. The two authors will curate signature events that focus on the themes of freedom of expression and how writers can sustain their creative process. Also scheduled are discussions with author Marlon James and Ta-Nehisi Coates on book bans and censorship.

Governor’s Ball returns to Flushing Meadows in Queens this year, and the lineup is filled with exciting artists. The likes of Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar and Odesza will all take the stage at this popular music event. Guests can also expect performances from the likes of Diplo, Haim and Lil Uzi Vert.

In addition to the musical acts, this year’s TEDxManhattan conference will feature a diverse range of speakers. Several notable celebrities will share their thoughts on activism, feminism and the current political climate. Among them are actresses Chelsea Peretti and David Duchovny, as well as news anchor Dan Rather. The event will also include panels on how to navigate sexual harassment in the workplace and the impact of sexism in Hollywood.

If you can’t make it to Coachella this year, don’t worry: you can watch the entire weekend of performances online for free. The festival’s YouTube channel will livestream all six stages over both weekends, and fans will be able to see every performance from the comfort of their homes.

The 2023 edition of the Beale Street Music Festival will be held at Tom Lee Park, which is currently undergoing renovations. The lineup includes a number of recognizable names, including Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters and Shania Twain (Weekend One only). Also scheduled are the Lumineers, The 1975 and The Vaccines.

The Alliance of Latino Theaters of New York City has announced TeatroFest NYC 2023, a citywide festival of Spanish-language dramas. This powerful collaboration features 20 productions and 210 performances from nine of the most acclaimed Latin theater companies in NYC, including Teatro Circulo, IATI Theater, LATEA Theater, Pregones/PRTT, Thalia Spanish Theatre, Repertorio Espanol and Teatro SEA.
